The bench was created as part of an academic project which focused on a folding wooden chair as the source of formal, technological and material inspiration. The project included a number of variations on the folding wooden chair, examining new forms, alternative folding mechanisms and additional materials. Among the many sketches and models there were also a folding ladder, a folding rocking chair and a folding bench.
